Individual Psychotherapy and PsychoanalysisI work with adults who have a wide range of interpersonal and emotional difficulties. When I first meet with a new client, we work to understand the nature of their distress and the patterns that are causing them pain. I help my clients first clearly see and then work through old limiting ways of relating to themselves and other important people in their lives. This work often involves exploring how their problems developed in the past, and how a more satisfying life can be possible in the future. One aspect of my work involves accessing areas of the mind that are out of conscious awareness and yet exerting tremendous control over day-to-day life. This is a powerful tool to help resolve old patterns, and to develop healthier relationships, ways of working, and untapped capacities for freedom and joy. I work with individual adults at a minimum of once per week. Many people find that working more frequently in psychoanalysis dramatically increases the potency of treatment to change old, stuck patterns in their lives. I work with individual adults at a minimum of once per week. Many people find that working more frequently, two or three times per week, dramatically increases the potency of therapy to change old, stuck patterns in their lives. Some people choose to focus on short-term therapy, to alleviate a particular symptom. My work most often involves adults with the following goals:
